Embracing the Storm: Capturing Horses in the Rain
You know that feeling when you look outside, and it’s pouring rain, and you think, “Maybe I’ll stay in today.” Well, that was my initial thought too. But sometimes, the weather has other plans, and this time, it brought a magical opportunity. On our farm, with rain coming down in sheets, I grabbed my camera, pulled on my boots, and went out to photograph our horses. And let me tell you, the results were mesmerizing.
The rain created an atmosphere so rich with texture and depth that every shot felt like a painting. There’s something about the way water clings to a horse’s coat, or the way the sky darkens to almost match the ground, that turns the simplest moment into a timeless scene. And in black and white? Absolute magic. The drama of the clouds, the sheen of the rain, the power and grace of the horses—it was all amplified.
I was soaked to the bone, of course, but isn’t that part of the fun? A little rain never hurt anyone (though it did make me seriously reconsider my shoe choices). But even as I stood there, half-laughing at my situation, the rain somehow made everything more special. It’s like Mother Nature decided to play photographer for a day, and I was just lucky enough to catch the moment.
The best part of the session? Every picture came out with its own moody, dreamy aesthetic—just the kind of art that makes you want to curl up with a warm drink and let the picture tell you a story. These are the kinds of photos that remind you of quiet moments on rainy days, where everything feels a little softer and the world slows down, even just for a minute.
Finding the Beauty in Every Drop
So here’s my advice: Don’t run from the rain. Embrace it. Let it add mood, mystery, and a touch of magic to your day. Sometimes, the most unexpected moments create the most beautiful art. And that’s exactly what happened with these photos—nature’s own design, captured in black and white, showing the horses as you’ve never seen them before.
I’m so excited to share this new collection with you! These images are now available in my fine art print shop, so if you're looking to add a little moody magic to your walls, I’ve got just the thing.
