Professional photo shoot for a tiny foal

Spring time is foal time - and this spring I got to photograph the sweet little Spider. From the loving breeding program Dream Performance Horses, he has the best start into this life. And oh, I am sure he is going to use it! This little man, just three days old really left an impression on me. It felt like he saw the camera, and immediately knew what to do. He was showing off his great gates, was joking around, and giving me the most intense looks. Some horses just love to be in the spotlight.

With foal photoshoots, I always keep it very simple. We stay in an area where they feel safe, close to mama, and interfere very little and just in a playful way. My biggest job is being an observer and capture the individual personality. Of course, when the images are for a breeder, I make sure to capture images that represent the qualities of the little one, for great sales images.

For breeders, these early images are a way to celebrate their careful work and vision. For horse owners, they’re a once-in-a-lifetime memory. No matter the purpose, I always try to create photos that are more than just “pretty”: they should feel alive, full of character, and true to the little one’s spirit.

If you're expecting a foal this season or already have one stealing your heart, I’d love to help you capture these precious early moments. Foals grow and change so quickly, and a photo session is a beautiful way to hold on to the magic of their first days. Feel free to get in touch to plan a gentle and joyful shoot.
